Fit comes before features
Earbuds that do not seal comfortably can sound thinner and reduce the effectiveness of active noise cancellation. Look for several ear-tip sizes and consider how long you normally wear earbuds. A secure but comfortable fit is especially important for commuting and calls.
ANC and transparency serve different jobs
Active noise cancellation is most useful against steady low-frequency sounds such as engines or air conditioning. Transparency or ambient mode does the opposite by allowing environmental sound through. Neither mode should be treated as hearing protection.
Microphone quality varies by environment
Call performance depends on microphone placement, signal processing and surrounding noise. A product that sounds clear indoors may have more difficulty outdoors in wind. If calls are your priority, look for clear information about microphone design rather than relying only on speaker specifications.
Battery figures are estimates
Battery life changes with volume, ANC use, codec, call time and temperature. Charging-case figures usually combine several recharges. Compare the earbuds' single-charge estimate separately from the total case estimate.
Check controls and compatibility
Touch controls, multipoint pairing, companion apps and low-latency modes can affect daily convenience. Confirm that important app features work on your phone platform before you buy.
Fit changes both comfort and sound
Ear tips affect seal, bass response and how well passive isolation works. A technically capable earbud can still be a poor choice if it does not fit securely. If multiple tip sizes are supplied, try them carefully and prioritize a stable, comfortable seal rather than the tightest possible fit.
Microphones and calls
Call quality depends on microphone placement, background-noise processing and the phone or app being used. A specification sheet cannot fully describe performance in wind, traffic or a busy office, so consider your main calling environment when choosing.
Battery figures need context
Advertised battery life may be measured at a particular volume with features such as ANC disabled. The charging case can extend total listening time, but it does not change the continuous runtime of the earbuds between charges. Compare both figures when they are available.
Quick checklist
- Confirm compatibility with the device you already own.
- Check the specification that matters most for your use case.
- Review shipping, returns and warranty information before purchase.
- Ask support if an important detail is missing or unclear.
